Professional skills

  • Professional skills: Reliability, punctuality, communication skills, problem solving, contributions to team, initiative, reflective practice and ability to listen to and adapt practice based on constructive feedback, etc.

I’m very reliable to all of my commitments in my life, such as class, work, this is demonstrated by me showing up for class or work each day. This shows that I am trustworthy to the team members and classmate’s teachers and instructors as this is fulfilling my commitments. This then shows I take my responsibilities seriously as well as fulfilling my obligations for my work practice as well as my classes. This then fulfils the team member’s faith in me as well as my classmates, children, parents and anybody involved in my commitments. This is a strong core value for me by showing reliability and punctuality.

I take pride in being punctual; this is demonstrated by showing up for my shift at work or class 10 or 20 minutes before. By emphasizing my time management skills, I am very organized, make sure I have a plan my time effectively. Having this extra time to organize myself before I start the class or start my shift at work. Then I am present and ready for classmates, parents, team members, or children.

My communication skills are confident with adaptability and I have professional speaking abilities. By demonstrating deep listening, by adapting my practice due to constructive feedback, this helps me grow as a person and educator.

When I say that I have professional speaking abilities I show this by adapting my communication styles to different situations. This is shown by focusing on the speaker both verbally and nonverbally, avoiding distractions, noticing body language eye contact and nodding. This then comes to active listening by paraphrasing to understand with clarity.  I understand that this is an area that we can also adapt constantly as we are learning and growing and evolving our communication skills.

There are also times when I make mistakes in my communication skills and I learn to improve them by deep listening and reflective practices. I can also ask for clarity and understanding in these moments.

I make sure that I communicate with my team, clearly communicating through different transitions in the day. Problem solve with them, even in disagreement we can show our collaboration or clarify understanding and perspectives. I listen to adapt my practice with several different perspectives while still having my own. I also make sure to take constructive feedback and try to improve areas that need improvement.

I want to come back to noticing body language then eye contact and asking questions. Such as you need my help? This was demonstrated when a team member needed help in the situation. By paying close attention to all the aspects of communications you start to notice when your team member or chidden need something with you words being spoken. Clarifying understanding and taking a moment to pause is extremely helpful in different situations. This can lead to great professional relationships with your team members and children.

Practical skills:

Professional skills responsive/relational care of your children, roles, duties, tasks, etc.

  • Practical Skills:

Practical Skills: Responsive/Relational Care of young children, roles, duties, tasks etc.

When I think of practical skills it brings me to the code of ethics,

Principle one “we understand the children’s health and well-being are essential to the learning and achieving their full potential we are insured that environments for children are safe secure and supportive of good health in broadest sense. We create programs alongside children that provide opportunities to thrive socially, emotionally, morally, spiritually, physically, cognitively. A healthy environment for children is one of which play is encouraged, a connection to the land is fostered, caring for each other is valued, and warm, loving atmosphere is maintained.”

I bring this up because this is what we do for young children our roles and duties and responsibilities to them. There are all so other aspects to our duties and tasks that we will evolve around our practical skills. Such as making sure all their individual needs are met, we have a well diverse community and knowing each child’s needs. Is important throughout the skills that we h are helping each of them with, we create an environment where children feel safe to be able to explore the world that is around them.

By knowing each child’s needs, we are able to work alongside with them through each of their discoveries within our practice. Touching base on social emotional, morally, spiritually, physically, cognitively each of these categories are reflected in our practices so that children feel heard and understood and valued. Being alongside with them is to listen to understand, make sure that we are full of knowledge for their diverse cultures and understandings of the world. Giving them the atmosphere that feels warm and inviting and fostering the love of their culture. Well implementing a diverse understanding of the land around us.

I feel I could touch base on more as I continue through this journey I wanted to reference from the code of ethics.I want to remember the fundamental foundation from my learning and continue to practice this learning from each of my courses continuing forward.
