Here is my discussion board for the very first week this to happen and the first week of my practicum and I decided to display this first.
I wanted to display this first as it starts the narration on kind of our path around birds this is what all started the whole thing from the very beginning it amazed me on the interest and opinions of the children have had the last two weeks around this topic and the actual discussions that they’ve had the debates the dispositions of being uncomfortable with thinking it’s one thing that a child thinking it’s another so these democratic practices or even within discussions that are around topics such as birds and being curious while walking along side them as they figure out the answers to each of these curiosities that they’ve had and the involvement that the children are bringing to this is absolutely astronomical I wanted to make sure that you had the full story this is the very beginning of it as of next week I will be incorporating new information from this week’s findings from the children and also trying to investigate a problem that were having. For this next following week.
I have enjoyed the collaboration, discussions, imagination, I have thoroughly enjoyed the children bringing their parents into the findings and curiosity. This can look like them talking about the different topics such as birds sleep? or don’t sleep? it’s a goose? it’s a duck? Why and why not . The children talking about nests , that they do sleep because eagles fly. All these different topics still makes me strongly indicate to anybody that I speak to about how children are able capable and willing to be a part of these deep discussions and this goes back to the early learning framework. This also comes back to the pathways of engaging with well-being and belonging on page 69 of the early learning framework joy in relationships people places materials and ideas this concept of the birds themselves is bringing joy he into the relationships with the people the places that we go and the materials and ideas as the materials would be the drawing and the incorporation of the idea of what the nest could look like which will be on my next board and the ideas of the children and how they’re incorporating this within their curiosity also the joy that it brings us you know to to be in collaboration with these children in a topic that is so vast and large and I hope to continue with for the next year or even longer. One of the other educators that I work with said my discussion board “looks really good the children have a lot of interests and also so many opinions on birds it’s been really cool to watch.”
On page 87 of the early learning framework, it under democratic practices.
“what opportunities do children have to express their opinions and values”?
“what opinions do children have to listen to opinions and values of others”?
This covers both of those as we are all expressing our opinions and values around this topic, if they think it’s a duck or goose or if they understand why and what the differences are for each having this opportunity to listen to understand and value the opinions of others.
If we do get into that discussion where we think that were right and they’re wrong how can we go about understanding each other’s points of views.
The curiosity around this and working through these discussions, that’s where I find this topic so valuable because they have an interest within this.
I have an opportunity to explore this with the children and other educators as well as the family and hopefully the community.
